Wealthy students and lawyers seen as the 'ideal tenants' |
01 2007 |
| Students are the most popular tenants for a majority of landlords, experts have revealed. According to a report in the Telegraph, not only are students more likely than professionals to sign up to a full 12-month tenancy due to university commitments, but many are able to pay the full rent in advance, particularly if they have the help of 'the bank of mum and dad'. Furthermore, many parents often help their children out by thoroughly cleaning a property at the end of the tenancy in order to get the deposit back. However, at the top end of the rental market, a majority of landlords look for professionals to live in their properties, with finance workers who spend most of their time at work and lawyers who appreciate the implications of breaching a tenancy agreement, particularly popular. According to the estate agent Knight Frank, landlords of such properties prefer professionals as "They are primarily here to work. "Their rental apartment often becomes a place to sleep and shower. I have clients who have moved in and out of their apartments without ever using the cooker. The manuals are still intact in the plastic in the oven," the company's Jemma Scott told the newspaper. ![]() |
