US artist recaptures 1966 and all that

An American artist has recreated the experience of the 1966 World Cup final for his latest work, to be shown at a warehouse on Engineers Way, opposite the newly refurbished Wembley Stadium.

Paul Pfeiffer has said that he wants modern day fans and non-fans alike to think back to the year in which he was born and commemorate English football's finest hour.

"I was aware of the great importance of the match in England but it continues to unfold just how important the event appears to be to a lot of people," he said.

"That's been a discovery."

However, while the location of the art, which was commissioned by the arts agency Artangel, is pretty close to the original, some artistic license has been employed for other aspects of the work.

For example, the chants of Rule Britannia and When the Saints Come Marching In were sang by people recruited by the artist in the Philippines.
