UK drops down list of world's most expensive cities

London has dropped down the list of the world's most expensive countries in which to live.

For the third successive year the Russian capital, Moscow, came out on top, with Tokyo coming in second place, thanks to high rental costs and the soaring price of leisure activities.

For example, the research carried out by Mercer consulting firm found that a cup of coffee in a café in the heart of Moscow costs more than £5, including service, while eating out and filling up a car also cost more than anywhere else on the planet.

Notably, UK cities, including London, have slipped down the rankings, with market trends making them even more attractive for foreigners looking to move for a job and rent a place close to their place of work.

"In contrast to the strengthening euro and other European currencies, the British pound has remained relatively stable against the US dollar," Mercer's Yvonne Traber explained.

"As the cost of living in the eurozone has risen relative to the US, UK cities have declined in the rankings."ADNFCR-1219-ID-18700462-ADNFCR
