Tuk-tuks set to hit London streets |
19 2007 |
| Getting around central London may not be such a chore in future as the firm behind Brighton's famous tuk-tuks looks likely to expand its operations to the capital. For around a year now TucTuc Ltd have been operating their colourful rickshaws along the waterfront of Brighton after being awarded the first license outside of Asia for the eye-catching mode of transport. However, while they are seen as a welcome addition to Brighton's cultural scene, particularly given the fact that most of them are covered in locally produced art work, it seems that they may not be welcomed by all Londoners. Cabbies and riders of the pedal-powered rickshaws popular with theatre goers in the West end will no doubt resent the added competition, though those on a night out may benefit from more competitive pricing. In addition, the initiative will provide enjoyable jobs for the city's students and young professionals and let them re-live their Asian backpacking days in the busy streets of the capital. ![]() |
