TSA recruitment gets lift-off

Housing minister Caroline Flint has today (June 6th) announced that the recruitment process for the new Tenant Services Authority (TSA) is up and running.

The body is designed to give additional powers to tenants in social housing, allowing them to praise landlords for their efforts while also targeting those who are failing to deliver.

Now Ms Flint has confirmed that she requires two tenants to fill half of the four places on the board of the TSA, which is set to begin operations at the end of 2008.

She said: "The new regulator will have wide ranging powers to affect change across the social housing sector and to ensure that the interests of tenants are protected."

The regulating body - which replaces the Office for Social Tenants and Landlords - is expected to make life easier for landlords by reducing their paperwork and the number of routine inspections.

It will also provide tenants with the ability to claim compensation if they feel they are not receiving a satisfactory level of commitment or service from their landlords.
