Tenants must get insurance

Tenants should talk to their landlords about security when living in rented accommodation.

That is according to Direct Line Home Insurance, which said that tenants should take out contents insurance.

It also advised that tenants and landlords should speak to each other about security.

"Tenants should speak with their landlord to ensure the best practical security measures are in place to protect both the building and contents of the property," said Andrew Lowe from Direct Line.

"Most landlords see security measures as a wise investment in their property which can actually reduce the insurance premiums they pay.

"If you are renting, you should ensure you have contents insurance which covers the full value of your belongings. Contents insurance is often a lot cheaper than you expect," he continued.

Moneysupermarket recently revealed that 40 per cent of property owners do not have contents insurance.ADNFCR-1219-ID-18577435-ADNFCR
