Tall order for Manchester curry chefs

Chefs from one of Manchester's best-known curry houses are set to attempt to make history, by building the biggest ever poppadom tower.

To get into the record books, the staff of the Indian Ocean Restaurant in Ashton under Lyne will have to pile more than 300 of the snacks on top of each other.

They will attempt the feat at this year's Tameside Food and Drink festival which will see the best producers and retailers from the Manchester borough showcase their wares while also raising money for Oxfam's relief work in India and Asia.

Faz Aslam, the restaurant's marketing manager, told the Manchester Evening News: "We have been putting in a lot of practice and are confident we can do this - not only to get the world record but also to raise money for Oxfam. It should be a really exciting night."

As well as the potentially record-breaking Indian Ocean, Manchester famously boasts some of the top Indian restaurants in the country.

In particular, as well as offering cheap accommodation just a short distance from the city centre, Rusholme is home to the city's 'Curry Mile' where affordable neon-lit restaurants are open well into the early hours. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18308291-ADNFCR
