Street art exhibition kicks off

The Tate Modern is today officially opening its unique 'Street Art' exhibition, some of which has been adorning the river-facing wall over the past two weeks.

The exhibition, which is set to run until the end of August, displays works from six internationally acclaimed artists which are all linked to the urban environment.

It will include some hi-tech additional features, such as live blogging of works as they are unveiled and extra pictures chosen by the artists.

The highlight of the visual scene at present, which is around 15m high and clearly visible from the Millennium Bridge, comes from Parisian artist 'JR'.

His work features a man holding a shortened video camera as if it was a loaded gun, pointing it at the bridge-crossers while also training his eyes directly on them.

The gallery is also putting on a street art walking tour around Bankside which will depict the work of five relatively unknown Madrid-based artists.

Entry to the Tate Modern 'Street Art Exhibition' is free. For more information, go to www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/streetart.
