Spruced up Manchester trams roll out

With the massive £100 million upgrade of the city's tram system now complete, Manchester residents have been promised 'high class' journeys around the city and into its suburbs.

Over the past few months, many Mancunians have been forced onto the buses to get around as the work was undertaken.

However now the city centre to Bury line is set to open, while the line south to Altrincham has already been completed to rave reviews.

It is not the improved tracks or ticket machines that most impress passengers but rather the spruced-up trams themselves.

"Let's just say they were in need of some tender loving care.

"There just hasn't been enough emphasis on the ambience of the system and the passengers do notice that. They will feel that they are getting a little bit more of a high-class journey. It will drive down graffiti and make the whole experience more comfortable and clean."

Some things remain the same, however: the trams will stop running well before Manchester's famous nightclubs and bars shut at night, leaving revellers to enjoy the wonders of the city's night buses. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18280299-ADNFCR
