Salford students to be paid for living locally |
29 2008 |
| Students attending university in greater Manchester are to be given £500 if they choose to live in Salford. As part of a new initiative to attract prospective students, Salford University is to deduct the sum off the tuition fees of those who rent a property in the city or who live with family members there. Furthermore, those students who attain two-A grade and one B at A-Level will be rewarded with an annual payment of £1,000. "If you live in Salford and you join us this year, you will get £500 for study regardless of how much your family earn," explained the university's Liz Bromley. "We are aware that fees make coming to university difficult, as only a small number of students have no financial pressures." The move comes as Salford University looks to attract thousands of new students from across the UK and the world, with the institution pointing to the benefits of affordable accommodation, a vibrant social scene and the good job prospects to be created by the forthcoming Media City. ![]() |
