Salford apartment tower plans give green light

Plans for the construction of a pair of skyscrapers boasting contemporary apartments and leisure space in the heart of Salford have been given the go-ahead by the city's authorities.

Work on the £180 million Canopus Greengate project will start in January, with the towers set to dominate the landscape between Manchester Cathedral and Trinity Way.

The towers, which will be 47 and 31-storeys high, will be home to 403 luxury apartments for professionals to rent or buy, alongside a spa and pool complex.

"The Greengate project plays a very important part in the regeneration of Salford and the plans will help to bring a forgotten part of Salford back to life," Councillor Derek Antrobus, the city's planning chief told the Manchester Evening News.

"These developments also respect the heritage of the city and point to a vibrant future for Salford."

However, the forthcoming towers will still be dwarfed by Manchester's Beetham Tower as both Manchester and Salford become increasingly popular with young professionals looking to live in urban centres. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18387533-ADNFCR
