Salford a 'hot spot' for the good life

Salford is one of the best places to live in Britain right now – and that's official.

The city was ranked sixth on the recently-published Affordable Affluence Index from the Royal Bank of Scotland which rates how easy it is for residents to "live a champagne lifestyle on a cava budget".

The relatively low cost of living, combined with a thriving arts and music scene, upmarket shops and excellent bars and restaurants of the city and of neighbouring Manchester all make Salford an ideal place to live, the bank concluded.

"Salford is perhaps a less anticipated top five entry in the index, but with a phenomenal programme of investment, and its proximity to Old Trafford, the area has been much rejuvenated in recent years," the report stated.

"Fantastic shopping locations and the waterfront redevelopment make Salford a desirable place to live."

Though local residents and councillors welcomed the news, they stressed that they have their eyes on the number one spot, with the forthcoming influx of BBC workers likely to further improve the city.
