Renters wasting valuable space, study finds |

| Millions of people across the UK are failing to make use of all the space in their homes, a new study has found. Research carried out by the Yorkshire Bank revealed that one in four people do not put spare space in their rented house or flat to good use, with spare rooms often being filled with washing or, in the case of a dining room, being used for a meal only once in a while. In addition, almost half of those questioned admitted that, if they have a garage, more often than not it is filled with junk while their car is on the driveway and 16 per cent said that they used their conservatory to store toys. Commenting on the findings, Gary Lumby, head of retail at the bank said: "Once we've got [space] - and in most cases paid a premium for it - we often don't use it in the way we intended." The findings follow on from a recent study which showed that around one in three people looking to rent a property put proximity to their friends and family as their number one priority. ![]() |
