Rental demand in the south-east is booming, report confirms

Landlords in the south-east of England are confident that they will have no problems filling their properties due to the continued rental demand in the region.

While some areas of the country are experiencing a slight downturn in the property market, a new study carried out by Alliance & Leicester found that 71 per cent of landlords feel that the overall prospects for their property investment are either good or very good.

"Regardless of a tough financial year, it is clear the buy-to-let property market is still healthy for longstanding landlords, especially for those in the south-east of the country," said Jeremy Claridge, head of specialist mortgages at the lender.

Just last month the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (Arla) reported that 57 per cent of its members in the south-east of England are currently struggling to cope with the demand from students and professionals looking to rent in the region.

In addition, two-thirds of those in London said that they have more prospective tenants than properties to rent, with the high prices forcing people off the property ladder seen to be a major factor behind the trend. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18398587-ADNFCR
