Radcliffe pulls out of London Marathon

A toe injury has forced British running sensation Paula Radcliffe to pull out of the Flora London marathon, it has been reported.

The news will be a blow to both Radcliffe, who is gearing up to take part in the marathon at the Olympic Games in Beijing later this year, and the people of London, who traditionally line the streets of the capital to support the athletes.

This year, the event will be held on April 13th and the 26 miles and 385 yard course will wind its way past the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, through Surrey Quays, Bermondsey and along Jamaica Road before crossing over Tower Bridge.

Runners will then turn east along the Highway to the Isle of Dogs, go back past the Tower of London and then along the Embankment before finishing in the Mall.

Millions line the route, and a real party atmosphere is in evidence - one that people renting in the area will not want to miss.

For her part, three-time event winner Radcliffe said: "I am desperately disappointed that I have to pull out of this year's race. I love running in London and this race would have been the perfect test for me before the Olympic Games.

"But in marathon training there are no short cuts and there is simply not enough time to be in the shape I want to be in to run well in London. Now I must concentrate on being as well prepared as possible for Beijing."
