Professionals confident of continued rental sector growth

Newly-published statistics show that a majority of UK private landlords are confident that the rental property sector will remain buoyant for some time yet.

With student and immigrant numbers rising steadily and would-be homebuyers still constricted by affordability issues, many are sure that demand for rental property will continue to be strong, the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) has concluded.

This sense of optimism in the sector is so strong that, of the landlords questioned, 46 per cent said that they intend to build upon their property portfolios over the next 12 months.

The findings come despite recent reports of an economic slowdown, though many landlords have taken this into account when assessing the future prospects.

"There can be no doubt from these figures that buy-to-let landlords are well aware of the opportunities but behave with caution," commented Ian Potter, operations manager at Arla.

He added that, for now, buy-to-let "remains the sustainable option for housing in the UK", as it caters for those people who either can't afford to buy, or who would benefit from the flexibility of renting. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18535597-ADNFCR
