Professional renters increasingly popular with landlords

Landlords are increasingly looking for professional tenants to fill their rental properties, industry experts have claimed.

The trend comes as growing numbers of professionals are now opting to rent a property rather than struggling to buy, with many employers now helping them to secure a flat or house.

According to research carried out by the Mortgage Trust, 27 per cent of landlords would target corporate tenants when renting out their property in comparison to just 14.4 per cent at the start of the year.

John Heron, managing director of Mortgage Trust, explained: "Corporate tenants offer landlords stability and they also tend to pay above average rents because they demand high quality properties and want the right locations for their employees."

In addition, professional tenants are coming to demand high-end properties that are fully furnished and come with everything needed to be able to move in immediately, while long-term rents are becoming increasingly commonplace.

The study also found that 34 per cent of landlords actively target single tenants while 28 per cent are aiming at families not on housing benefit. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18382074-ADNFCR
