Pacific islanders take trip to exotic Manchester

Due to its excellent reputation, Manchester continues to attract people from all over the world, though none have perhaps travelled as far as the stars of the new Channel 4 series Meet the Natives.

For the show, four men from the island of Tanna in Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean are flown over to the UK and end up living with a Manchester taxi driver and his family to get an insight into the city and its people's way of life.

Given that Vanuatu was recently voted the happiest nation on Earth, their positive reaction to Manchester is praise indeed.

On a trip to the city centre, one of the islanders remarks: "Everywhere I look, I can see black people, white people, every colour of people, all together, and they all look happy."

Among the other highlights of their time in Manchester were a trip to a football match, a night out at the bingo club and taking the dog to a grooming salon, with one of them commenting "These dogs would be good for eating, but they don't like to eat them here."
