NLA comments on 'reluctant landlord'

The National Landlord's Association (NLA) has commented on the phenomenon of the "reluctant landlord", as more and more properties are instructed to let.

'Reluctant landlord' is the term given to homeowners who have decided to rent out their property after trying to sell, and although the NLA accepts that most reluctant landlords are well-meaning, there are some issues surrounding their lack of experience, it says.

Simon Gordon, head of communications at the NLA, said: "Becoming a landlord in this market is not for the faint-hearted.

"The ultimate responsibility for operating the tenancy lies with the landlord and, although a good letting agent is worth their weight in gold, 'reluctant landlords' are obliged to be on top of their game."

Tenants are already enjoying the cheaper rental prices brought about from the surge in supply of rental homes, and with new landlords paying more attention to legal standards the benefits of renting over purchasing a property are mounting.ADNFCR-1219-ID-18883086-ADNFCR
