National student accommodation survey open for opinions |

| Those living in rented accommodation while at university have been invited to participate in the National Student Housing Survey 2008. The annual study seeks to uncover the key issues affecting students in rental accommodation and what they look for when choosing a property. Last year's study, which was conducted by Red Brick Media, found that 75 per cent of students looking to rent accommodation were unaware of the newly-introduced Deposit Protection Scheme, meaning many are leaving themselves open to unfair or illegal treatment. In addition, the responses given showed that university halls are continuing to lag behind private accommodation in terms of student satisfaction. "The results of the 2007 survey have really helped us to clarify our priorities for 2008." said Roland Shanks, Senior Housing Advisor at the University of London. "Being able to see the analysis in the context of a national survey is indispensable in helping to form policy, direct future project work and encourage improving housing standards." The most recent survey also found that the location of a property and its transport links are more important factors to students than price, with many happy to pay more for a good postcode. ![]() |
