Men more likely to sort out renting finances

When a couple is moving into a new rental property, the man is more likely to sort out the financial arrangements than the woman, a new study has found.

Researh carried out by Halifax Estate Agents found that, while choosing the area in which to live is almost always a joint decision, 48 per cent of men in a relationship will take sole financial responsibility for the move in comparison to just 34 per cent of women.

The study also found that 19 per cent of men and 21 per cent of women feel that they act alone when choosing to move, despite being in a relationship.

However, this gender disparity is affected by age, with 72 per cent of 16 to 24 year olds not wanting to make a decision on renting a new property on their own, while those in Wales are also better at working together to sort out a move.

According to the latest statistics from the Investment Property Forum, the private rental sector increased by 471,000 households over 2007, due largely to growing demand.ADNFCR-1219-ID-18454390-ADNFCR
