Manchester stakes its claim as the friendliest city of the North |

| Residents of Manchester are upping the ante in a war of words with their rivals across the Pennines over who is the friendliest. The debate follows on from a recent survey carried out by the Yorkshire Tourist Board which concluded that those living in the White Rose county were generally more friendly and welcoming that those living in Manchester, a claim Mancunians are now strongly disagreeing with. Another survey carried out by the Manchester Evening news found that the majority of people it questioned were "dumbfounded" by the theory. Student Daniel Malone, who is from Manchester but who attends university in Leeds, told the newspaper: "I think the survey could be biased as a result of the historical antipathy which has existed between Yorkshire and Lancashire. "But one of the things I notice when I return to Manchester is that people have time to speak to you, which they don't always have in Yorkshire." The 22-year old's comments were backed up by a large number of local residents, while the thousands of young people flocking to the city every year and renting in its popular suburbs point to Manchester's enduring appeal. ![]() |
