Manchester music legends join fight to save iconic emporium

Traders at Manchester's iconic Affleck's Palace have called on the city's residents to show their support after it was revealed that the shopping emporium is under the very real threat of closure.

For years, the Palace has been popular with both students and creative Mancunians due to its eclectic independent stalls and shops.

However, at the start of this year it was announced that the tenants have been warned they may have to vacate the premises due to an ongoing dispute with the building's owners over leasing issues.

Among the big names who have backed the campaign to save the alternative shopping centre are the Manchester music legends Elliot Rashman, who manages the Happy Mondays, and New Order bass player Peter Hook.

"If I'm passing in town I'll be there," 'Hooky' told the Manchester Evening News.

"It's important for the city to show its support and keep Manchester young and vibrant.

"We need places like Afflecks to grow the next generation of talent and creativity."

A final decision is expected to be made at some point next week. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18432449-ADNFCR
