Manchester landmark to be given new lease of life

New plans for Manchester's iconic Afflek's Palace have finally been unveiled.

The independent city-centre emporium was due to close for good at the start of next month 25 years after the owners decided not to renew the lease, with dozens of traders facing the prospect of losing their businesses.

However, it has now been revealed that the new owners are keen to reopen Afflek's and have a host of new initiatives in place to help maintain its independent spirit.

In place of the old artwork surrounding the building, which is in the heart of Manchester's vibrant Northern Quarter, an area popular with creative professionals looking to rent in the city centre, new works will be commissioned to brighten up the streets, with customers and locals to be invited to help out,

A spokesman for the new owners, Bruntwood, commented: "Afflecks can give emerging, local artists the chance to showcase their talent.

"Afflecks isn't going to change, it's just going to get better and in early April we'll give all its customers the chance to play a permanent part in its history."

So far, a majority of traders have welcomed the new plans. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18512073-ADNFCR
