Manchester brewery to be turned into flats

The site of the former Boddingtons Brewery in Manchester is to be turned into a brand new leisure and office complex, complete with hundreds of new homes which will allow people to rent a place in the heart of the city.

According to the developers, the chimney of the brewery will be kept in place as a reminder of the city's heritage though the rest of the site will be given over to the construction of buildings of five to eight stories high.

As well as homes to rent or buy, the development at Strangeways will also see dozens of new retail and leisure outlets being opened, adding to the appeal of this area of the city and providing hundreds of new jobs for local people.

Though a detailed planning application is expected to be put forward only at the start of next year, with construction to begin soon after, the programme of urban redevelopment which has taken place over recent years in Manchester has led to a massive growth in the popularity of renting flats in the city centre.

Notably the site of the legendary nightclub The Hacienda has now been given over to apartments while the docklands of Salford Quays continue to be massively popular with young professionals renting close to the heart of the city. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18332437-ADNFCR
