Manchester boasts world's best beer

Most people living in Manchester will argue that their city has some of the best bars and clubs in the country.

However, now they are able to boast the best beer too after local tipple Old Tom was named the best 'winter warmer' at the latest World Beer Awards.

The dark, which has been brewed for more than a century by Robinson's of Stockport, breezed through the early rounds of the competition before being awarded the crown after a final blind-tasting test.

Though away from the student accommodation stretching south from the city's universities, Stockport is a highly popular choice for young professionals working in Manchester but looking for cheaper rents as well as excellent transport links to the centre.

This latest award for the city comes after former Smiths legend Johnny Marr was named as the new Professor of Music at Salford University, with his music technology and recording classes already showing unprecedented interest from prospective students from across the globe.
