Londoners to get to watch Olympic torch relay

Tenants living in a number of London boroughs will be given the opportunity to watch the Olympic torch being carried through the capital on its way to Beijing.

Some 80 torchbearers will be involved in the city-wide relay, including Sir Trevor McDonald and Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes as well as dozens of local schoolchildren.

The Mayor's office, which is organising the event, has announced that the torch is to be carried through the areas of Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill in the west of the city and Stratford and Whitechapel in the east, as well as passing by London's famous city centre landmarks.

Prior to leaving for Paris, the torch will then be used to light a cauldron on the site of the forthcoming 2012 Olympic games, to be held in London.

According to many property observers, preparations for the London games have already led to significant improvements in the east of the city, where demand for affordable rental accommodation is currently booming.
