London renters to benefit from 'wow factor'

Professionals looking to move to London are set to benefit from one of the biggest redevelopment projects the country has ever seen, with mayor Boris Johnson calling on businesses to ensure the 2010 Olympics leave an impressive legacy.

Speaking as he launched his "London Calling" initiative, Mr Johnson revealed that the work that has already seen the east side of the city become popular with both student and professional renters will continue for many years to come.

"I am looking for ideas with the 'wow' factor - a place of magic," he explained.

"A huge amount of our investment in the Olympics is for the 'legacy' for East London afterwards.

"We are cleaning up the land, burying overhead power lines, improving roads and railways and installing new energy infrastructure."

While rents in areas such as Bermondsey and Stratford are currently among some of the most affordable in the capital, this situation looks set to change sooner rather than later as excellent transport links and job opportunities serve to push tenant demand ever higher.
