London remains top choice for student renters |

| London remains the number one choice for thousands of young people heading off to university, in spite of the widely-reported high cost of living. Just this week HSBC published a new report revealing that the capital boasts the highest rents in the whole country, beating off Birmingham, Plymouth and Leeds. However, many are still happy to pay over £100 a week to rent a place in London, feeling that factors such as a vibrant arts scene and a hectic nightlife more than justify the high costs. What's more, students heading to the capital have a far greater choice of rental property than those choosing to study in most other cities. Siobhan Cosgrove, an accommodation officer at University College London, explained to the Independent: "London is clearly an expensive city, but we certainly haven't noticed a drop in the numbers of people applying here. "Living costs are no doubt a factor, but people still come to university here just to be in London." ![]() |
