London hosts first ever Fido Awards

With the majority of landlords not letting pets live in rented flats, students living in London who miss their family pets will be able to enjoy all things dog-related in the capital over the coming weeks.

As part of the London Film Festival, the first ever Fido Awards ceremony will honour the nation's finest canine actors as well as the handlers who train them.

Leading the pack of favourites are Anna, Poppy, Megan, Alice and Oliver, who all starred alongside Oscar winner Helen Mirren in the hit film The Queen.

As well as the Historical Hound category, awards will also be given out for the best Comedy Canine and Blockbuster Bowser, with the stars of such films as Control, The Holiday and Year of the Dog tipped for success.

"I loved those Corgis because they were funny," Dame Helen Mirren told the Observer.

"I can understand why the Queen has them. Forget winning an Oscar, I'd be more proud of an award for dog handling."

In addition, next month sees the Discover Dogs exhibition take place in London's Earls Court, giving the thousands of young professionals renting in the area of west London the chance to enjoy some the company of man's best friend for a weekend.ADNFCR-1219-ID-18318739-ADNFCR
