London gets on its bike

London is set to celebrate the joys of getting around on two wheels with the seventh annual Bicycle Film Festival later this month.

For those renting in the suburbs, cycling into the city centre for work or university is not only far cheaper, but often easier and quicker, than going by bus underground and ongoing improvements in road safety have seen the number of cyclists on the streets of the capital soar over recent years.

Beginning on October 17th, a host of bike-related films from across the globe will be shown at the Rich Mix in Bethnall Green.

Among the highlights are works on fundraising cycling journeys across the Alps, cycling radicalism in Canada, a short history of the mountain bike as we know it today and helmet-camera tours of a number of international cities.

In addition, numerous exhibitions and after-parties will also be put on over the course of the five days, though the details of many of these are being kept secret until just before they kick off.

For those bike lovers who want to do something a bit more active, the festival's organisers will also be putting on a Brick Lane Bike Polo event, with prospective players simply invited to turn up to London's curry capital with a bike and a mallet. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18318738-ADNFCR
