London benefiting from booming diversity |

| The true extent of London's cosmopolitan nature has been revealed in the latest report to be published by the Office of National Statistics. According to the figures, around one in three of all people currently living in London were born overseas, with more than 10,000 additional foreign-born citizens heading to live in the capital each month. Attracted by job opportunities and the vibrant arts and culture scene, almost 100,000 Poles are now living in London, with the majority renting flats across the capital with friends or relatives. Other large foreign-born communities adding to the diversity of London include the 200,000-strong Indian population, 113,000 Irish people and 108,000 Jamaicans. Jeremy Browne, home affairs spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, welcomed the findings and the cultural and economic benefits the different nationalities bring to London. "London is a truly international city with a constantly evolving population," he said. "We know migration added about £6billion to our economy last year and London has shared in the benefits," a Home Office spokesman added. ![]() |
