Landlords 'stressing-out' tenants |
20 2007 |
| With growing numbers of Britons switching to rental property, a new survey has found that a significant proportion of tenants frequently get stresses-out by dealing with their landlords. The recent study found that landlords typically fall into one of five categories. As well as the perfect landlord, tenants can also rent a property from a cowboy, a scatty landlord, a disastrous landlord and even the lonely landlord. This means that 48 per cent of all UK tenants feel stressed at some point as a result of dealing with their landlords, the fish4homes.co.uk survey found. In order to avoid ending up with an unreliable and unhelpful landlord, property experts advise prospective tenants to talk with those who have previously rented the flat or house in question, as well as to ensure that they read the tenancy agreement in full before making any commitment. These latest figures come soon after research carried out by AA Legal Services found that around 50 per cent of tenants fail to get a written contract, while only 32 per cent take out contents insurance. ![]() |
