Hundreds of new Manchester homes set to be built

One of Manchester's most-overlooked neighbourhoods is to be given a much-needed re-vamp, with hundreds of new homes and other facilities to be built there, council bosses have announced.

Plans for the future of West Gorton were put forward some months ago, but it is only now that they have been given the official green light and planning officials feel that this latest urban regeneration project could benefit both local people and attract greater numbers to the area.

Being just a mile-and-a-half east of the city centre, West Gorton is likely to prove popular with professionals looking to rent a cheap property and have an easy commute into work every day.

Alongside 1,200 new homes, the area is also set to benefit from new public green spaces and community facilities, including new shops and a doctor's surgery.

While one part of West Gorton has become famous after being the setting for the TV series Shameless, the local authorities are confident that this facelift will make it attractive to those professionals who perhaps cannot afford to rent one of the thousands of city-centre apartments currently springing up across Manchester.ADNFCR-1219-ID-18518406-ADNFCR
