Greenwich Market set to get a facelift

After the locals narrowly managed to block the Council's plans to knock it down, the famous Greenwich Indoor Market is to be given a facelift.

Long loved by fans of fine foods and general bric-a-brac alike, the market plays a key role in the Greenwich community and under the new plans it is likely to be given a new roof which may mean it will be able to open every day.

The move would give the south-east London borough a much needed boost after the iconic Cutty Sark ship went up in flames earlier this year.

For many Greenwich is seen as the ideal place to live in London. While its lack of a tube stop may be seen as a bane by some, for others this allows the area to retain a separate identity from the big city across the river.

In addition to the market, residents of Greenwich benefit from affordable rents, one of London's best parks surrounding the Greenwich Observatoty and even a nearby indoor beach at the former Millennium Dome-turned-concert venue.

However, the Council also announced that the redevelopment plans would also include the opening of a boutique hotel in the market, thereby giving those renting in other areas of London the chance to enjoy a weekend break without leaving the city. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18318734-ADNFCR
