Croydon attracting Australian professionals

Australian professionals have been invited to leave the beaches of their homeland behind and rent in the suburbs of London.

With a growing number of foreigners heading to the UK capital in order to benefit from the job opportunities the city offers driving the booming demand for rental accommodation, Croydon Council has launched an appeal for planning officers from the other side of the world.

Already the initiative has snapped up three new recruits from Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, with these specialists set to join thousands of their countrymen who feel that giving up on the hot weather is a price worth paying for improved job prospects.

Local councillor Jason Perry, cabinet member for planning, told the London Evening Standard: "The option of international recruitment, although expensive in the short term, was something we felt obliged to try.

"It's an innovative approach for the planning profession and I am delighted it appears to have paid off."

Though some way out of the centre, Croydon is one of several London boroughs popular with professional tenants looking for affordable rents and good links to the city centre. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18721296-ADNFCR
