Corrie to mirror Manchester's urban renting revolution

Art looks set to imitate life as a new block of contemporary apartments is to be built on Manchester's most famous street.

In an effort to make Coronation Street better reflect the modern realities of life in the city, the show's bosses are to introduce a number of new characters who will be renting one of the swish residences currently being built close to Ashley Peacock's butcher's shop.

As with the new apartment blocks being built in Manchester city centre, the fictional development will not only give professionals the chance to live close to their place of work but will also boast its own GP's surgery, newsagent and corner shop.

According to the main investor in the project, Tony Gordon, the "exciting new development in Wetherfield" offers luxury apartments "to rent or buy".

Alongside the street's successful businessman, it is being rumoured that rebellious teen Rosie Webster may choose to rent her own place in order to get away from her mother Sally, while bookies Harry and Dan may also be looking to get their own places. ADNFCR-1219-ID-18483349-ADNFCR
