Competition heats up for new Brighton flats |

| Competition for rental accommodation in Brighton is likely to heat up after the local authorities ruled that only one of two proposed new developments can go ahead. Late last year Explore Living submitted plans for a development containing 1,294 new flats as well as a number of shops and amenities, to be built on the Brighton Marina. Then in February Brunswick Developments put forward its plans for a new luxury hotel and an 853 apartment complex, to be built just yards from the first proposed site. While the construction of both would have been a welcome boost for those looking to rent in the south-coast city, Brighton and Hove Council has now ruled that one will be given the green light. A joint statement released by the companies involved read: "Explore, Brunswick and Brighton and Hove City Council are working together and remain wholly committed to finding, through collaboration, how the two schemes can be rationalised." The planning authorities feel that having both developments would be too much for the marina, which has been the focus of a multi-million pound regeneration project over the past few years. A final decision is expected in the summer. ![]() |
