Chinese Moon Festival comes to London |
17 2007 |
| Summer is finally coming to an end in London though the colder weather and earlier darkness is easily made up for by the rich programme of events lined up for the capital over the coming months. Kicking things off is the Autumn Moon Festival in the city's Chinatown district, with the local residents and workers leading the celebrations of the autumn harvests and of the full moon itself. As well as the restaurants offering their usual great deals on authentic Chinese food, from September 19th to the 29th, members of the nearby Soho Theatre will be leading 'Moonwalks' through the area, taking audiences through the streets by lanternlight and telling tales from the three generations of Chinese Londoners. In addition, the traditional fare of moon cakes will be served to visitors to the festival, though the lumps of sweet bean paste with a salted egg yolk centre are highly divisive. Love them or hate them, they're certainly cheap and filling and for the unimpressed there's always the bustling West End nearby to escape to. ![]() |
