Cheaper homes underway in Wales |

| Construction of 6,500 new homes has begun in Wales as the Assembly government begins its pledge to bring thousands of new affordable homes to the Welsh, it has been reported. The work began on a 28-home development in Bargoed in which deputy minister for housing, Jocelyn Davies, laid bricks to celebrate the commencement of work. Speaking about the future of new and affordable homes in Wales deputy minister for regeneration, Leighton Andrews, was quoted in a report from News Wales: "The Assembly government is supporting, promoting and encouraging the use of micro generation and renewables. "We want the heads of the valleys to be a model of good practice in sustainability and this project is an excellent example of how the latest technologies can be used to fight fuel poverty and improve quality of life." However mortgage liquidity issues will prevent many first-time buyers from obtaining even recently-built affordable homes. Many lettings agents such as Your Move have reported rises in demand for rental property since the onset of the financial crisis. ![]() |
