Celebrities fight for Camden's future |

| London celebrities have joined the fight to save the famous Camden markets following the local council's announcement of its regeneration plans for the area. The Stables Market has long been popular with tourists and Londoners alike and, along with affordable accommodation and good links to the centre, is a major factor influencing those looking to rent a flat in the capital. While Camden council has put forward plans for an impressive £12 million development which would include bars, restaurants and independent traders, opponents have argued that such a project would take away the character of the area. After Blur's Graham Coxon expressed his concerns, pop star Kate Nash recently became the latest celebrity to publicly oppose the plans. Speaking at one of her concerts in Highgate, she said: "I only found out about the plans for the Stables Market very recently. This is our London and we shouldn't let other people change the place where we live. You have to stand up for what you believe in. If the market did close then I don't know where I'd buy all my clothes." ![]() |
