Capital gears up for charity music festival

While for the rest of the country the music festival season came to an end with the onset of winter, for those living in London, the parties simply carry on as normal.

Kicking off the autumn's musical festivities is Oxjam, a month-long series of intimate gigs and club nights in support of the international development charity Oxfam.

Among the acts set to perform at one of the charity's specially-converted shops in the east of the city are Fatboy Slim, The Kooks, Jarvis Cocker, Jamelia and Hot Chip.

Tickets for the big events at the Dalston store sold out long ago, but the festival will also see an estimated 40,000 musicians play to an audience of 300,000 people across the UK with badges designed by a host of music stars on sale to commemorate the event.

In addition, celebrity memorabilia from the likes of Elton John, Corrine Bailey Rae and Goldfrapp will be up for grabs at shops across the capital.

Luke Pritchard, singer with The Kooks, said: "Oxjam is all about thousands of small events adding up to something much bigger, so it's great to join in by playing a small acoustic show. Music fans can get involved throughout October by going along to a local Oxjam night." ADNFCR-1219-ID-18300287-ADNFCR
