Brighton planning marathon event |

| Brighton and Hove is to join cities such as London, New York and Tokyo in holding a marathon, it has been announced. Under the proposals put forward by former Olympian and member of the London Marathon operations team Tim Hutchings, the event will see an estimated 10,000 runners descend on the city, with thousands more likely to visit as spectators. In addition to generating millions of pounds for the local economy, the marathon would further put the city of Brighton on the world map and increase its popularity with renters. Mr Hutchings explained: "We want this to be a smaller version of the London Marathon but with the same carnival atmosphere, involving all the community and bringing to Brighton all of the emotions the London event engenders - fun for participants and spectators." Just recently it was confirmed that Fat boy Slim will be holding another of his Big Beat Boutique music festivals on Brighton beach, further enhancing the city's reputation as a leading centre of arts and culture. ![]() |
