Brighton monorail moves one step closer

People living in Brighton could soon be zooming along the south coast on a futuristic transport system now that the route of the proposed monorail has been given the green light.

The planned initiative looks set to link the city centre with the Shorham harbour, passing the marina, the iconic Palace Pier and Shoreham Airport along the way.

With the trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 miles per hour, tenants renting in the popular marina will be able to reach the pier in just three minutes, while access to the regional airport will be given a significant boost, thereby helping the economy as a whole.

"The scheme has to work in line with the buses but Brighton Marina needs the monorail like Canary Wharf needed the Docklands Light Railway," developer David Courtney told the Argus.

"If we are going to build in Brighton Marina, Black Rock and Shoreham harbour we need a monorail even more."

Young students and professionals either living in Brighton are considering a move to the city are also likely to welcome the news that the monorail will run until three in the morning, thereby making it easier for them to get home from the many clubs and bars.
