Booming arts scene driving London's success

London's bright lights continue to attract the country's finest creative minds, a new report has confirmed.

According to the Greater London Authority, around 18,000 jobs were created within the creative sector over the last year recorded, meaning that the city's arts workforce now stands at around 554,000 and is growing at double the rate of that seen in the financial and business industries.

"The creative industries are a crucial component in the overall strength of the city," explained London Mayor Ken Livingstone.

"Our lead in the creative industries helps ensure London remains at the global cutting edge, attracting all kinds of companies to choose London to do business because of the strength they can draw on in design, advertising, PR and many other creative fields."

The news came as the two of the city's largest creative events, London Fashion Week and the Film Festival, came to an end, though dozens of equally as impressive festivals are lined up for the autumn, including the Raindance Film Festival and the festival of Design, currently taking place across the South Bank.
