| A booming economy and strong supply of affordable rental accommodation means that the problem of squatting may be a thing of the past. Coming soon after the latest figures from Abbey which showed that in most regions of the UK it is cheaper to rent a property than to buy over the long-run, the website landlordzone.co.uk has revealed that incidences of squatting have declined significantly. "I don't think squatting is a major problem at the moment," explained Tom Entwistle, the website's editor. "I imagine it is something that comes up more in hard times than in good times," he added. Just recently, a study by the Independent found that living in London is not as expensive as many believe it to be, with market competition working to the benefit of renters. Alongside higher salaries and good job opportunities, "supermarket shopping is among the cheapest [and] rent and mortgages do not take up as much of your annual income as they do in the south-east", the study concluded ![]() |
